Xenon Hid

HID is also known as High Intensity Discharge, these are a style of lamps that are electrical lamps, mercury vapors, metal halide, high pressure sodium and low pressure sodium. These high intensity discharge lamps are most often compared with the fluorescent and incandescent lamp. HID lamps are of course made of a higher quality than halogen which is proven by the increase in visibility on the road when you are driving a car with Xenon lights.

There are 4 different types of high intensity discharge lamps which we just mentioned, the mercury vapor which has a CRI ( color rendering index ) of 15-55. The mercury vapor when they first came out started with a bluish and green light and there were the very first high intensity discharge lamps on the market. Over time they were modified and they are available in a color corrected much whiter type of light. More often than not these mercury vapor lamps are often replaced with the high pressure sodium’s and the metal halide.

The metal halide which has a CRI range of 68-80 are available in colors as well, ceramics can go up to 90. The low pressure sodium lights whose CRI range is 0 but they do offer the highest efficiency of all of the high intensity discharge lamps and they create yellowish color light. The High pressure sodium whose range is 22-75 CRI, they will produce a whiter color light but it can be described as a more natural light.

The applications of these HID are used when the call for a high level of light is needed over a large area. Such places that these application have been used are gymnasiums, public areas like parking lots or ball fields. In theaters , warehouses, roadways and even some residential areas. High intensity discharge are also used for indoor gardening when plants and vegetables have to be grown with a lot of sunlight.

Most recently high intensity discharge lamps have been used for automobile headlights. Some drivers love it because they get to see the roads better which makes the roads safer for other drivers but at the same time there are drivers who are complaining because when these lights are set on high beams they are very blinding. These lights are even being used for headlamps on bicycle which is also much safer for the motorist so they can be seen much better and they can see much better as well.

These lamps also last longer than the average lamps as well. The xenon lights can be started at a very low voltage but they tend to heat up during usage and when the gas within the bulb rises the more voltage is used. By using these lamps in any application they will benefit from the long life especially if you are using them in a outside fashion. But technology is getting better everyday and any problems that these lamps have will soon be corrected until a bigger and better lamp comes along
